Perhaps the most important accessory for your ukulele is a tuner. After all, the very first thing you should do when picking up your uke is tuning it up, right? And a tuner just makes that process so much easier. So which tuner to get? There are many ukulele tuners out there, and the Terry Carter Music Store has a wide variety of tuners that you can choose from. Most of my tuners were purchased at the TCMS, and in this article I will cover the details about the top three tuners in the store. One of them is my favorite, and I have gifted it to many ukulele players!
How You Use Most Tuners
But first, let’s talk about how to use a tuner. Most tuners work relatively the same way with small differences in the presentation on the tuner screen. You simply clip the tuner on to the top of your headstock. This micro tuner is probably the smallest one you will find and can be left on the headstock of your ukulele. After clipping the tuner on, you turn on the tuner by pressing on the power button. Then you simply pluck each string G-C-E-A and read where that pitch is on the tuner screen. You turn the tuning pegs in either direction depending on where your pitch is as you tune the ukulele. You repeat this for each string until your ukulele is in tune. Now you are ready to jam! Let’s check out the tuners!
D’Addario Micro Headstock Clip on Tuner
This is the number one tuner on my list, and it is my favorite tuner. You can find it at this link, D’Addario Micro Headstock Tuner. My favorite feature of this tuner is its size. Because it is so small, this tuner can be left clipped on your ukulele headstock even when it is in a gig bag or hard shell case. Because of its size and ease of use, this is the tuner that I recommend for all levels of ukulele players. You can even buy them in packs of two if you have multiple ukuleles. It makes a great gift for the ukulele players in your life.
