Remember Me History:
“Remember Me” is a song from the 2017 Disney/Pixar animated film “Coco.” The song was written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who are best known for their work on the Disney film “Frozen” and its sequel. “Remember Me” serves as a central theme throughout the movie, expressing themes of love, loss, and remembrance.
In the context of the film, “Remember Me” is first introduced as a popular song written by the character Ernesto de la Cruz, a famous musician within the world of the story. However, as the plot unfolds, the significance of the song deepens, particularly in relation to the protagonist, Miguel, and his family history.
The song undergoes various renditions throughout the film, reflecting its emotional resonance and the different perspectives of the characters. It is performed as a lively, upbeat tune by de la Cruz in his heyday, but it takes on a more poignant and heartfelt tone when Miguel sings it to his great-grandmother Coco, aiming to jog her memory of her father.
“Remember Me” won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 90th Academy Awards, marking a significant achievement for the film and its creators. It has since become one of the most iconic and beloved songs associated with “Coco,” capturing the essence of the film’s themes of family, memory, and the power of music to connect across generations.
